Excursions sees D_Know invite his first guest to release originals on the label in the form of Vault resident and South African techno affiliate JED. As the release title suggests, both artists present tracks with a more cerebral, spacey quality. Even though they are generally known for their unrelenting approach to the genre, these tracks offer another side to the artists whose respective tastes are by no means limited.

For ‘ExA1’, the opening track of the EP, D_Know constructs a 10-minute journey of acid-laced, meditative techno. With hypnotic vocal loops and undulating synth lines, the listener is told a sonic story whilst still maintaining the essence of the dance-floor spirit. On ‘ExA2’, he subsequently picks up the pace! In keeping with the ‘acid’ hints of ‘ExA1’, this track incorporates more classic analogue sounds of old-school house and techno whilst keeping the listener locked under its dreamy spell. For this release, JED’s approach to his productions runs within a similar vein. ‘ExB1’ opens up with haunting pads and metallic percussion whilst the synth elements creep their way in. The track’s energy rises at a steady pace until the break, after which the listener is guided back into the progression. On ‘ExB1’, the final track of the EP, JED closes things out with a Detroit-inspired techno hybrid. With tribal elements and spacy synth-work, the track has a unique quality that makes it particularly versatile as it crosses over various styles and soundscapes.
